Dear Hamilton Broker Community,
When planning for what 2020 would bring, as a board, we were enthusiastic for all we had intended to share with you. COVID-19 is not a turn of events we expected, but in times of unanticipated circumstances, it is about adaption and doing the most we can, within our given parameters. The Insurance Brokers Association of Hamilton has had to cancel our in-person events indefinitely. When we can get back to a new normal and host events again, we endeavor to so in the most socially responsible way. The health and well-being of our members and community are of the utmost importance to us.
Firstly, thank you to the Hamilton community for doing your part to help #FlattenTheCurve. It is working, and we will come out of this stronger than ever. Hamilton Front Line Workers, you are the true heroes, THANK YOU for your sacrifice every day. To those of you who have been directly affected by this horrible virus, our thoughts and well wishes are with you and your families.
As an organization who aims to support our community and promote the broker brand, we struggled with how we could make a difference without events and fundraisers in the foreseeable future. One thing for certain, our hearts were heavy given the stress many of our community members and charities were under from circumstances of COVID-19. It became our priority to help as much as we could, and as quickly as possible.
The Interval House of Hamilton supports women and children in our community who are victims of domestic violence. For most of us, home has been the safest place to be during this mandated time of social distancing, but for many women and children in our community, there is nothing safe about being isolated at home.
Food 4 Kids Hamilton makes sure 1,200 packages of healthy food make it out each week to 63 Hamilton elementary and five Hamilton high schools. With no way to safely get these children the nourishment, they require with Ontario school shutdowns and make sure it was enough to sustain them, they require assistance now more than ever to adapt to the greater needs of these children.
Neighbour-to-Neighbour Centre of Hamilton’s mission is to lead our community to an improved quality of life. Whether it is through their foodbank or family, educational, and emergency services programs, they are there to help and empower those who need it. During this economic time of uncertainty and climbing unemployment rate, more Hamiltonians are relying on their food bank services than ever before.
With humble hearts, the Insurance Brokers Association of Hamilton is pleased to donate $2,500 to each of these very deserving charities in need. They are the frontline and essential services in our community, and every little bit helps so they can keep doing their important work to make a difference.
Sincerely,
The Insurance Brokers Association of Hamilton Board of Directors
